A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Navigate mazes with your mouse! Be fast enough to finish the level on time, but be careful not to crash!

About

Mouse Maze is my submission for the January 2022 Movement Jam. This is my first time working in Unity, and so I wanted a design concept that was simple enough to execute on while still being fun to play.

Reflecting on the theme, I remembered the wide genre of browser games from my childhood that relied on moving the mouse through a maze without crashing. That seemed a lot simpler than attempting a platformer for my first game, so I went for it! And unlike the old browser games, Mouse Maze does NOT include any jump scares!

How to Play

Simply move the mouse around the screen to navigate menus, play the levels, and change settings! Hover over buttons to click them; touch toggle buttons to flip them; and zip around the levels all with a flick of the wrist!

Features

  • 9 levels packed with twists, turns, and moving platforms!
  • Settings to adjust the difficulty:
    • Turn on / off level timers
    • Turn on / off "Forgiveness Mode" *
  • A crash counter and run timer so you can compare scores with your friends!
  • A bumpin' soundtrack from bensound.com!

* Forgiveness Mode is a setting that will widen the hitboxes of the safe paths by a small amount so that the level doesn't register a crash as soon as you touch the yellow danger zones. Helpful if you aren't accustomed to manipulating a mouse with precision!

Install instructions

Simply unzip the downloaded file and double click the executable within! Don't move the other files that are also in that folder; they are libraries that are necessary to help the game run correctly.

MAC USERS: The game will not run properly without first following these steps: https://forum.unity.com/threads/mac-unity-build-from-a-pc-not-opening-on-mac.947..

Additionally, I was unaware that Unity would make the mouse HUGE on macOS, so please know that was not an intentional design decision and that the cursor is properly sized on Windows builds.

I cannot guarantee that the Linux, or Windows x86 builds will play correctly, as I did not have a machine to test on. I can only hope that Unity built them well. If you are playing Mouse Maze on one of these operating systems, please comment below so that I can update this list (and hopefully remove this disclaimer altogether!).

Wow! This game is great. When I was a kid, I hated coloring inside the lines. Let me just say your game brought out a familiar rage. I've only gotten to Level 5 so far. LOL! I've enjoyed following your progress on Twitter. Awesome game, man!

My mouse has never felt this level of engagement before!

Oh, what a lovely game this is. I like the smooth movement, the fact that you have to hover over the menu items, instead of clicking them, and the elegance by which level changes occur.

The game's idea is fairly straightforward: 'move your mouse, but not too much and certainly not where you aren't supposed to.'

And what an idea it is.

Mouseworth, my mouse-y companion in the realm of digitalness, is ecstatic after having experienced this masterpiece. By his own words "This game is truly something special. It is short, but ever so sweet. An activity that no mouse should ever be robbed of. 10/10"

Now, I'd like to issue a challenge to any and all who read these words. I am by no means an expert in the craft of MouseMazing, however, after practicing for countless minutes, I feel qualified to summon anyone who dares to try and beat me. This also includes you, Mr. Fletch, creator of the MouseMazeMultiverse!

May our mice roar and our battles be epic!

Bounty's High Score

Armed with nothing but a plastic mouse, I challenge thee to beat my high score!

Thank you so much for playing my game! I'm absolutely astounded at this time! Gonna have to practice some more to beat it!

How's this?
