Paper Stars is a slice-of-life, Hidden Object game where you play Ila. After waking from an unplanned nap, Ila struggles to remember what they were doing before. Help Ila remember their task by finding special objects in the room and exploring a small part of their story. There are so many interesting things to be discovered though! Will you be able to focus?

Right click + move mouse - pan the camera
Q - rotates camera left
E - rotates camera right 
Mouse wheel scroll - zooms in and out 
Space bar - resets camera pan to default position
ESC - exit the game early

Discovering objects may have unexpected side effects, so look closely for changes. When you've discovered everything, an epilogue will play.

We first set out to make this game adhere to the theme of Parallel for PPJJGG #3, with the easiest and most visible connection of "parallel worlds". Due to the time constraints and our neurodivergent struggle to focus, as well as some unavoidable life obstacles during the jam, we had to let go of the parallel worlds mechanic. 

Though that was the simplest connection to the theme, there is still yet the underlying purpose of our game that embodies the concept of parallelism between games and real life. 

We wrote this game to illustrate a character who sees life as many of us in real life do, drawing a connection between what we create and what we experience. Whether you're diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, or another of the many neurological disabilities, you might experience the struggle to focus, stay on top of tasks that might be considered "easy", or remember important information and events. Paper Stars reflects this in what Ila goes through on their day-to-day. 

In an almost comical, and completely unintentional, ode to this game, the entire process of developing Paper Stars ran parallel to the themes we built it around.
